Description
Church House is a detached house dating from the 15th century, with alterations made in the early to mid-19th century. It is constructed of random and coursed rubble limestone, featuring ashlar chimneys and a stone slate roof. The building is two storeys high with an attic and has a rear wing.
The east front is divided into two parts, each with a single-window sash arrangement; the left has a 4-pane window, while the right has a 16-pane window. There is a roughly central doorway that contains a 4-panel door. The roofs are at two different levels, with ridge-mounted chimneys at the north gable end of each section, both topped with moulded caps.
On the south end, the gable end of the main range to the right has a single-window arrangement. The ground floor features a 2-light chamfered mullioned casement, with a 2-light 15th-century window above that has trefoil heads, and a single ogee lancet in the attic, which appears to have been reset due to the roof being raised. A pilaster-like projection in the masonry at the right corner has a dressed stone top, possibly indicating the original eaves level. There is a blocked segmental arched doorway on the side of the left wing, with a 2-light casement window beyond it. The interior has not been inspected. Church House is recorded as the medieval chaplains' or curates' house.
