Description
Hartwell Cottage is a detached house dating from the early to mid-17th century. It is constructed of random and coursed rubble limestone, featuring ashlar chimneys and a stone slate roof. The building is two stories high with an attic and has a two-story wing at the rear.
The front of the cottage has a three-window arrangement, with all windows being recessed chamfered mullioned and fitted with iron casements. The left ground floor window is a three-light design, while the right has two sets of two lights with a king mullion. The central entrance features a round arched doorway with moulded jambs, a keystone, imposts, and a rusticated arch. The door is a plank design and has a hoodmould that rises above, connecting to the flanking casements. Above the entrance, there is a central two-light window flanked by a three-light window, all under a combined hoodmould. The roof has two gabled dormers, and there are gable end chimneys with moulded caps. To the west end, there are off-centre single-light casements on the upper floor and in the attic. The east end has a single-storey lean-to, while the rear features timber casement windows and two gabled roof dormers. The interior has not been inspected.
