Lodges

Lodges are mid-19th century lodge houses located on the Ridge, B4058 in Wotton-under-Edge. They feature good-quality ashlar stonework and Welsh slate roofs with deep eaves overhangs. The southern lodge, originally T-shaped, has been altered to form an H-shaped block. The original single-storey design includes three grouped openings in recessed arcading, featuring two arched sashes with glazing bars and a six-panel door beneath an arched plain fanlight. These elements are detailed with classical pilasters, imposts, moulded surrounds, and keystones. Smaller rectangular sashes are found in plain band surrounds on the returns. A large extension has been added in a pastiche style using artificial stone blocks. The northern lodge is a simple square block with two blind windows on the south face, a single blind square window on the east, and large new garage doors on the west side, away from the road. The lodges are possibly designed by George Repton, who also designed the now-destroyed house.
