Description

SK 27 NE PARISH OF HATHERSAGE NETHER PADLEY 5/49 4.12.80 White Edge Lodge II

Lodge. Mid c19, in imitation of the local C17 vernacular style. Coursed squared gritstone with quoins, moulded kneelers and copings and a stone slated roof. Square in plan, each elevation being gabled, with ashlar ridge stacks to side gables, and finials to the front and the rear. Two storeys and attics, each elevation a single bay, and each with a different window pattern, but all with moulded surrounds. South east elevation; 2-light chamfer mullioned windows to ground and first floors, and single light opening to attic. Casements with glazing bars. First and attic floor openings have plain dripmould, the ground floor openings have their heads linked by a substantial moulded stringcourse. A second stringcourse to first floor passes above window heads. Lean-to porch with plain stone doorway and plain planked door to north east corner. The porch has a C20 extension. One of a pair of lodges built by the Duke of Rutland for the Longshawe Estate, the other being Thickwood Lodge.
