Description

St James's Place is a terrace of three houses built in the early 19th century, with some minor alterations from the late 19th century. The houses are constructed of stucco on brick, finished with a textured coating from the 20th century, and feature slate roofs with brick stacks on the party walls. The layout is replicating and double-depth, with rear wings.

The exterior consists of three storeys and basements, with front areas. Each house has a coped parapet and a ground floor entrance doorway on the right, accessed by a flight of stone steps with wrought-iron balustrades above the area. Each doorway has a semicircular arched head; No.4 features a decorative metal fanlight with radiating glazing bars, while Nos. 6 and 8 have simpler fanlights with radiating bars. All doorways are fitted with six-panel doors.

To the left of each doorway is a sash window; No.4 has a sash on the first and second floors, while Nos. 6 and 8 have two sashes on each of those floors. The sashes in No.4 have glazing bars arranged in a 3x4 pane configuration, except for the top sash on the first floor, while the later sashes in Nos. 6 and 8 have a central vertical glazing bar. All sashes are in their original openings and have projecting sills. Notably, No.4 has decorative wrought-iron, bow-fronted window guards.

The interior has not been inspected. The front of the terrace is complemented by wrought-iron railings, with those for No.4 set between stuccoed piers.
