Description
No. 28 St James's Place is a terrace house built in the late 18th century. It features a brown brick exterior and a slate roof, rising three storeys with a basement and a dormered mansard. The house is three windows wide, with a semicircular arched doorway to the left, which includes a six-panel door flanked by sidelights and topped with a delicately patterned fanlight. The windows are recessed glazing bar sash types, set beneath flat gauged arches. A parapet with coping crowns the building, and there is a geometric patterned wrought iron balcony across the first floor. The area railings are also wrought iron, featuring twin lampholders and link extinguishers. This house was once the residence of William Huskisson, Member of Parliament, as noted by a plaque from the Greater London Council. Inside, the property boasts a stone staircase with wrought iron balusters and moulded cornices.
