Description
A pair of terrace houses at 43 and 45 Brunswick Road, Gloucester, dating from the mid-19th century, with alterations made in the 20th century. They are built of stuccoed brick, with slate roofs and a brick stack on the shared party wall. The houses are arranged as a double-depth block, with entrances on the left side of each property and rear wings to the left, with No.43 being wider than No.45.
The exterior features a raised band at the first-floor sill level, which is slightly higher on No.45, a continuous crowning cornice, and a coped parapet. Each house has a stone staircase leading to a plain doorway with a semicircular arch, containing a fanlight with radiating glazing bars. To the right of each doorway is a 20th-century sash window in an original opening—wider in No.43. The first floor of each house has two sashes in more widely spaced openings in No.43. The lower sashes of these windows have been replaced with plain glass, while the upper sashes retain 3x4 panes of glazing bars. The windows on the second floor retain 3x4 panes of glazing bars in openings with flat heads and projecting stone sills on the ground and second floors. The interior has not been inspected. These houses do not appear on Causten's map of 1843.
