Description

Yewtree Cottage is a small house dating from the late 17th century, which was enlarged in the 19th century and altered in the 20th century. It features white-painted brick nogging set against a random rubble plinth, with an extension on the left made of random rubble and brick dressings, also painted white. The roof is covered with asbestos slate. The cottage is two bays wide and one and a half storeys tall, with a lean-to at the rear. The front faces at right angles to the road, showcasing timber framing with one bay on the right, consisting of two panels high.

To the left of the front door, which is boarded and accessed by one stone step under a gabled timber porch with a boarded gable and trellis sides, there is a two-light wooden casement window beneath a weatherboard, featuring a straight brace sill to the wall post. A single-storey lean-to extension is positioned against the front of the gable, built with a brick plinth and nogging, and has a thin frame. To the left of the front door, there is a stone extension with a two-light wooden casement window topped by a cambered brick arch. A two-light lean-to dormer is located to the right of the front door, equipped with an iron opening light. The right return reveals a large projecting stone base for the chimney located behind the lean-to, with a brick stack and a timber-framed gable. There is also a stone lean-to at the back with a boarded door. Originally, the cottage was thatched and featured an eyebrow dormer, as shown in an old photograph.
