Description
Merrin is a house built in the second quarter of the 19th century. It features an ashlar plinth, smooth render, and a slate roof. The building has a three-window front that faces away from the road, with three narrow rear wings and a one-bay extension to the left, and it is two stories high. The garden front projects forward in the center, where the front door is located. This door has a square, reeded surround with corner paterae and consists of six panels, with the bottom two being flush. There are narrow side-lights on each side of the door, topped by a long, narrow fanlight. The doorway is sheltered by an early 20th-century lean-to porch with double, half-glazed doors. On either side of the porch, there are French doors with marginal lights above, leading down stone steps to the garden. A plain string runs at first floor level, above which are three wide sash windows with four panes each. The roof is hipped with wide, plastered eaves and features gable chimneys. The left extension is set well back and has one four-pane wide sash window on each floor. The right wing has a wall set back with a blind opening, which sweeps down over half its length and conceals a single-storey lean-to.
