Description
Fox Cottage is a house dating from the mid-17th century, with an extension added soon after and further extensions from the mid-20th century. The building features timber framing with brick nogged or rendered infill, and a painted brick extension, all topped with a clay tiled roof. The main wing consists of one room and has a 20th-century extension on the left. There is a one-room cross wing on the right that is set forward, with the angle behind it infilled in the 20th century.
Facing the road, the left extension has a 2-light casement window, while the wide lean-to porch on the right features a 20th-century door and a 2-light casement in the right return, marking the end of the original fabric at the midpoint of the porch. The right side of the house displays timber framing with two 2-light casements and weatherboarding above. A three-light casement is located in a leanto dormer above. A large brick chimney is situated on the right gable, with the projecting cross wing in front of it.
The framing consists of three panels high to the eaves, with a three-light casement in the gable and a ground floor with weatherboarding above. The main posts have jowls, and a 2-light casement above cuts through the tie beam of the gable truss, with weatherboarding over on the collar and a further collar above featuring a timber plaque in the apex. The scalloped bargeboards add to the character of the building. The right return shows timber framing, with the end of the main floor beam resting on a rail. At the rear, there is an infilled single-storey half-glazed room with a nipped roof. Inside, the main wing's right room has a large fireplace, complete with a bread oven.
