Description

Smithy Cottage is a house dating from the 15th or early 16th century, with alterations made in the late 20th century. It features brick-nogged or rendered panel timber framing and a tiled roof, with a painted random rubble extension on the right. The building consists of three bays and is one room deep, standing at 1½ storeys tall, with a single-storey extension on the right that projects forward.

The front of the house has all late 20th-century windows, with the framing generally consisting of three panels high to the eaves. On the left side, there is a three-light casement window that cuts through a long brace stud to the sill, and a blocked doorway to the right. Additionally, there are two-light casement windows and two further casement windows, along with an angle strut corner post to the wall plate.

The extension on the right has a blocked doorway that is accessed by one stone step and features a cambered brick arch. The first floor has three gabled dormers with two-light casements, and there is a chimney on the ridge opposite the blocked door. The left return showcases full elbow crucks, with the framing two panels high below the weatherboard, a collar above, and one pair of purlins.
