Description
Forest House is a house that has been converted into a hotel, dating from the late 18th century. It is constructed from coursed and dressed rubble stone with stone dressings and features a slate roof with wooden eaves and a modillion cornice, along with three stone stacks. The building is a single range with an outshut and a mid-19th century extension at the rear. It stands two storeys tall with an attic and has four 12-pane sash windows that feature grooved keystones, as well as four small hipped dormers with paired casements. The entrance door is located in the second bay and is topped by a curved projecting hood supported by cusped brackets. Forest House was the home of David Mushet, who was the first to produce high-quality cast steel using the combined process of Bessemer and Mushet.
