Description
The terrace balustrades, gate piers, and steps at Sedbury Park were constructed in 1903. They are made of stone and feature cast iron gates. The balustrading runs continuously along the west and south sides of Sedbury Park, serving as terrace edging. There is a small projecting hemicycle located opposite the center of the west front, and a wide flight of three steps is positioned opposite the center of the south side. The balustrade consists of square balusters and some plain return panels, which are set on a plinth of varying depth to accommodate changes in level. Most of the panel piers are topped with ball finials. At the southwest corner, there is a pair of gate piers, each approximately 650 millimeters square and around 3 meters high, featuring moulded caps and incised panels on their faces, above a plinth. The gates are made of heavy cast iron and dip at the center. The left pier bears the inscription 'WHM' and the right pier has 'MCMIII'. These balustrades are significant to the overall setting of the house.
