Description
Chepstow Rail Bridge is a rail bridge over the River Wye, built in 1849 by Isambard Kingdom Brunel. It features a large inverted 'W' girder that spans the river from the east side to a group of six tubular iron supports. On the Welsh (west) side, there are three spans in a simple channel form, supported by two sets of three tubular iron supports, leading to a heavy stone abutment that connects to the railway embankment. The balustrade is made of profiled pressed steel. Most of the superstructure is not original, with the main work by Brunel being in the tubular supports.
