Description

A barn and adjoining animal shelter, likely dating from the mid-18th century, stand at Ewen House. The barn is constructed of random coursed rubble stone with a corrugated iron roof. It comprises seven bays and retains much of its original timberwork, including collar and tie beam trusses and two trenched purlins. Two opposing entrances are located centrally, each with large timber lintels, and are boarded across to create a throughway for access to the rear of the house. New openings have been cut into the south side, incorporating a large timber lintel and a projecting stone slate roof on struts, featuring a small door on the far right. Beside the barn is an animal shelter with a large timber lintel supported by a single tapering square stone pillar, forming two bays. Timber loose boxes have been inserted at the rear of this shelter.
