Description
Unit 1 at Coalyard Farm is a former barn that has been converted for office use. It dates from the late 18th century and is constructed of coursed squared and roughly dressed limestone with an artificial stone slate roof. The building has a rectangular main body with projecting porches on the north and south sides. There is a stable block at the southeast corner, which is not of special interest. On the south side, there is a lean-to next to the porch. The south porch features a projecting gabled design with a 2-light stone-mullioned casement window on the first floor and pigeon holes above it. The front of the gabled porch has double plank doors set back within the lean-to. The lean-to on the right has a 20th-century plank door and two 20th-century casement windows. There is also a roofless lean-to on the left side of the porch on the north side, noted in November 1985. The building still retains the essential form and appearance of a barn. Inside, it has three bays and probably original roof trusses with collar and tie beams.
