Description

Five chest tombs belonging to the Oldham family, dating from the 18th century, are located about 1 to 3 meters northeast of the chancel in the churchyard of the Church of St John the Baptist. All the tombs are made of limestone and have flat tops. The closest tomb to the chancel is for Rebecca, with the earliest decipherable date of 1795, although it is likely from the mid-18th century. This tomb features a moulded plinth and capping, quarter baluster corners, and plain fielded ends and sides, which are divided into three sections.

To the east of Rebecca, arranged from south to north, are the following tombs: 1) An unidentified member of the Oldham family from the early 18th century, which has moulded capping, no visible plinth, and plain recessed panels on the ends and sides. 2) Ann, also from the early 18th century, has a moulded plinth and capping, lyre ends, and two circular panels with wreath moulding on each side. 3) Daniel, dated 1732, features a moulded plinth and capping, quarter baluster corners, plain fielded ends, and a south side with a large central rectangular panel flanked by small panels, all decorated with egg and dart moulding. 4) Another unidentified member of the Oldham family, dated 1746, is similar to Daniel's tomb.

At the time of the survey in April 1986, all five tombs were partially overgrown and in very poor condition, with two of the northern tombs partially collapsed at the sides.
