Description
Glebe House is a detached former rectory that dates from the late 18th century to early 19th century, with later expansions to the north and west in the 19th century. The original core is roughcast, while the later additions are constructed from coursed stone with flush quoins, all sitting on a chamfered plinth. The roof is made of stone slate with coped verges on the core, which features pilaster strips in roughcast, and the 19th-century wings have sprocketed roofs with concrete tiles on the inner slopes. The building is mainly two storeys high, with an attic in the north-west range. The core is a single range extended to the west at a right angle and has two parallel ranges to the north.
The core consists of three bays with 12-pane sash windows in moulded architraves, including one small, slightly recessed bay on the right. The ground floor features a large similar window to the right, a blocked central recess that may have been a doorway, and a triple glazing bar sash window to the left. The right wing has two bays with cambered head 4-pane sashes in plain chamfered reveals, and the left return rear wing has similar fenestration, including a canted bay and a chamfered Tudor arch doorway accessed by four stone steps. The rear 19th-century range has similar windows and two full dormers. A steep raking porch is set into the rear angle. While modest in architectural style, this house is part of a group with the adjacent Church of St John the Baptist.
