Description

Elm Cottage is a former smallholding, now a detached house, dating from around 1800. It is constructed with a roughcast finish over stone, and has a stone slate roof with decorative eaves brackets. Rendered stacks are present at the low end, along with a rear lateral stack. The main part of the building is a two-storey structure with an attic, and is joined by single-storey rear wings connected by a central lean-to roofed with slate. The front has three windows, each with 12 panes in a sash, set in plain reveals with a central blind recess. The central entrance door consists of six panels; the top four are fielded, and the bottom two are flush, sheltered by a flat stone hood supported on brackets. Two small gabled dormers feature paired casement windows. A significant amount of original internal joinery remains, including shutters and a carved stone fireplace in a ground floor room on the left.
