Description

BOURTON-ON-THE-HILL - SP 13 SE 4/25 The Thatched Cottage, Batsford Park Arboretum II Former dairy, now detached house, marked as The Old i)airy on 6 in. O.S. map. Late C19. Built under patronage of Lord Redesdale. Ashlar limestone with timber framed gables with rendered infill. Thatched roof, ashlar stacks. Arts and Crafts style. Plan: 2 blocks parallel, right-hand block staggered forward slightly. Twin gabled facade with 'patio' projecting forwards on right, bounded by wall c1m in height, with timber columns above supporting roof. Similar 'patio' to rear of same block. Irregular fenestration: 6- light wood mullioned casement left with 5-light wood mullioned casement supported on curved brackets below. Part-glazed door from patio in flush surround. 2-light wood mullioned casement right with single external shutter. Set of 4 octagonal stacks arranged in a square from just below ridge of left-hand block. Interior not inspected.
