Description
The Japanese Summer House at Batsford Park Arboretum is a late 19th-century summer house built for Lord Redesdale. It features Flemish bond brickwork and a Roman tile roof. The building has a square single-room plan with a portico at the front and sides, creating a symmetrical facade. It is a single storey with a two-window arrangement, consisting of two-light wooden casements with glazing bars flanking a part-glazed panelled door. The door is accompanied by boards painted with Chinese characters on either side. The roof is almost pyramidal and topped with a curving bronze fish finial, likely of Japanese origin. The interior has not been inspected.
