Description

The Tithe Barn at Lowesmore Farm is a very large tithe barn dating from the early 18th century. It is constructed of rubble stone with flush stone quoins and features a Cotswold stone slate roof. The barn has a central opposed cart entry that is gabled at both the front and rear. To the right, there is a tile-roof lean-to and a square tower with a hipped roof on the far right. This tower contains a columbarium with an entrance on the inner side, topped with a ball finial and weathercock. Slit ventilation openings on the east, north, and west sides are blocked, as are the pitch hole on the north gable and the arched entrance at the northeast corner. At the rear, there is a hipped gable projecting to the left and a two-storey gabled cart entry with a relieving arch to the right, along with a slate roof lean-to in between.

Inside, the barn consists of 17 bays supported by king-post trusses, and it includes a stone partition wall on the south side and a timber partition to the north. The interior is filled with machinery, making some areas inaccessible. Notably, the inner wall of the hipped cart entry bears graffiti with dates of 1742 and 1757 in what appears to be authentic lettering. Additionally, there is an owl hole on the north gable.
