Description
This barn, located approximately 35 meters north of The Manor in Coln St Dennis, dates from the mid to late 18th century. It is constructed from limestone rubble with dressed stone quoins and features a stone slate roof. The barn has a rectangular plan and includes a central projecting porch on the south side.
The south front showcases this central porch, which has double doors that are now blocked with random limestone. There is a single-width doorway and a 20th-century three-light casement window set within the blocked area. At the apex of the porch gable, there is a triangular ventilation or pigeon hole. The west gable end, which faces the road, has a ventilation slit high up, flanked by small square ventilation holes. The north front, which faces a small lane to the rear, features a central double doorway with two ventilation slits to the right. The east gable end includes a two-light casement window with an owl hole or ventilation hole above it.
Inside, the barn consists of five bays with a mix of plank and brick flooring, and the walls are plastered. There are lofts above all bays except the central one, and the original roof trusses include collar and tie beams.
