Description
Baines House, formerly known as Grey Gables, is a 17th-century building that has undergone modern extensions and significant restoration. It features coursed rubble walls and a steeply pitched Cotswold stone roof. The house is three storeys tall and has two windows with two and three light stone mullioned casements that include drip moulds. There are two large gables topped with finials and ashlar end stacks. To the right, there is a projecting gabled wing that was altered in 1902. The south-east elevation showcases a typical Cotswold design with three gables featuring raised coping and carved finials, along with two, three, and four light mullion windows and twin square chimneys with moulded coping. The building was modified for Sir Walter Essex around 1902, and the interior contains 17th-century fireplaces.
