Description

Vicarage Cottage is a detached cottage, likely dating from the 16th century. It is constructed of rubble stone with a stone slate roof. A large stone stack with twin diagonally set stone flues is located at the right end, and a single stack is at the left. The cottage is single-range with a small rear cross range and a lean-to, together forming a catslide roof across the rear. It has two gables facing the front, each with a single stone-framed light set within the gable, featuring a dripmould. A further dripmould extends across the width of each gable, below which is a two-light stone mullion with a square hoodmould. All windows have leaded casements. A three-light stone mullion with a square hoodmould is present on the ground floor to the left, and a renewed two-light window is on the right, supporting a projecting central gabled porch, likely dating from the late 19th or early 20th century. The right return side has two staggered single stone-framed lights with a dripmould towards the rear; these illuminate a surviving wooden newel staircase. The cottage is believed to be the oldest in Poulton. The interior is not accessible.
