Description
The former number 10, now part of Olcote, is a very small cottage that has been used as a store. It likely dates from the 17th century and is constructed of rubble stone with a stone slate roof. The cottage features a restored stone end stack on the left side and has a small square shape with a later outshut at the rear. Inside, there is one room with a former attic, although the stair to the attic is now blocked off. On the left side of the exterior, there is a paired 6-pane wooden casement window with a timber lintel, and to the right, a recessed half-glazed 20th-century door also with a timber lintel. The interior includes a stone flag floor, a large beam, and a fireplace with a cambered timber bressumer, which is no longer in use. This cottage is said to have been inhabited by Betty, who was reputed to be a witch and is believed to be buried at the nearby crossroads known as Betty's Grave.
