Description

The Cedars is a house located in Mickleton Village, with the main body dated and initialled W R M 1678 on the gable end towards the track, possibly reused. The structure is primarily from the early to mid-18th century, with a mid-19th century extension and entrance porch. The main body is built of coursed squared limestone with snecking, while the early to mid-18th century part is also made of coursed squared limestone. The roof is tiled, featuring flat coped gables and pointed, cross finials on the gable ends and dormers of the later extension. There are two ashlar stacks with moulded tops and skirtings at the gable ends of the early 18th-century block. The entrance porch is made of ashlar with a coped gable and a pointed, open-sided finial. The early 18th-century main body is positioned at right angles to the track, with the mid-19th century double span extension attached to the left and an off-centre entrance porch on the right. The facade is two storeys high, including dormers, and features a two-window arrangement. The windows are flat chamfered, mullioned, and transomed, with two, three, and four lights, and have stopped hoods. There are 20th-century metal casements. The gabled entrance porch has a four-centred, flat-chamfered, arched doorway with an unglazed bulls-eye window above and single lights in the side walls.
