Description
The Steele Graves Memorial Fountain is a memorial fountain dated 1875, designed by William Burges for Sir J.M. Steele Graves. It is made of grey ashlar sandstone and features a pointed gable with an inset Gothic arch. The rear of the arch is decorated with three roundels of white marble, possibly crafted by Woolmer. The central roundel displays the arms of the Graves family, while the other two feature carved heads of the patron and his daughter, Mrs. Bowen Graves. A lion head spout is located below the inset arch, flanked by memorial inscriptions on either side. This fountain is the grandest of three sources of piped water in the village, all constructed under the patronage of Sir J.M. Steele Graves.
