Description

Cranbrook Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the early to mid 17th century, with extensions from the late 17th century and the 19th to 20th centuries. The main structure and the 20th-century extension are built of squared limestone, featuring some snecking. The main body has a limestone slate roof with flat coped gables and a single ashlar stack with a moulded top and skirting at the left gable end. The 20th-century extension has a hipped tiled roof on the right side. The late 17th-century extension is made of coursed ashlar and also has a limestone slate roof with a flat coped gable end. There is a large ashlar stack at the junction of the main body and the late 17th-century extension. The main body and the late 17th-century extension are one storey with an attic, featuring three flush gables at the front and a three-windowed facade. The windows are 2 and 3-light, flat-chamfered, stone mullioned casements with single horizontal glazing bars. The central entrance has a painted plank door with a flat-chamfered, depressed arch stone surround. The dairy, which is a single storey, has two windows in the facade with reveals sloping to the right and a 2-light stone mullioned casement at the rear. Inside the main body, there is a large stone fireplace with a bressumer and an under-fire oven still in place, while the late 17th-century extension features a 4-centred arched fireplace. The interior of the dairy is made of brick.
