Description
The Forge is a house, originally a smithy and adjoining cottage, likely dating from the early 18th century and restored in the late 20th century. It is constructed of random coursed rubble stone with a stone slate roof, and has renewed stone ridge and end stacks. The building is a long, single-story range with an attic, and includes a smaller, single-story wing that was originally a separate forge. The main part of the building is divided into three sections, with the left-hand section being blind. The central section features two hipped dormers in the eaves and two 2-light windows below, all with 20th-century casement and vent windows. A central 20th-century six-panel door is set within a hipped porch hood. The right-hand section has a hipped dormer and a 3-light window below, both with concrete lintels. A single casement window is present on the street gable of the original forge. To the far left is a decorative wrought-iron gate, approximately door height, bearing the initials "AHP" and the date "1939".
