Description

Brook Cottage is a detached house, likely originally a group of cottages, situated in South Cerney. The central portion probably dates to the late 17th century, with additions to the sides in the 18th century, and a rear extension likely added in the 19th century. The house is constructed of coursed rubble stone with flush quoins, and has a stone slate roof. A stone ridge stack sits to the left of the centre, and a renewed stone end stack is on the right. The building forms an ā€˜L’ shape.

The front elevation has three windows. To the left is a 3-light wooden casement. Two 2-light stone mullion windows with square hoodmoulds are in the centre, the ovolo-moulded window dating to the 17th century, and later chamfered to the right. The ground floor has a 3-light casement with a concrete lintel on either side of a projecting central hipped porch. The porch has a 6-panel door and a small arched window in the right-hand return. A rear wing has a small gable to the south, and 2-light wooden casements on each floor to the left of the gable.
