Description

A block of three houses on Main Street, Coln St Aldwyns, dates from the early 18th century. The building is constructed from random rubble limestone, with brick chimneys and stone and artificial stone slate roofs. It is two storeys with an attic, arranged in an L-shape.

The front elevation has four half-gables and a four-window arrangement of timber casement windows, each with a timber lintel. A central doorway has a gabled porch leading to the middle house (No. 58). To the right end of No. 57, there's a doorway with a six-panel door and a gabled porch hood. To the right of this is a single-storey section with a small casement window. Three brick chimneys are visible on the main range, with an additional chimney on the single-storey part. The south side displays the gable end of the front range, and No. 59 extends to the left, featuring 20th-century casements to the left of a doorway with a timber lintel and plank door. Two early timber casements are located to the right of the doorway. The roof has a gabled dormer. The property was illustrated in W.G. Davie and E.G. Dawber’s book, Old Cottages...in the Cotswold District in 1905.
