Description
This is a small semi-detached cottage and adjacent butcher's shop located in South Cerney. The cottage likely dates from the late 17th century, while the shop is from the 18th century. The building is constructed of rubble stone with a stone slate roof. The cottage features a stone end stack on the right and the shop has a brick end stack with a projecting semi-circular bread oven. The cottage has a single front range and a later rear extension, consisting of one storey and an attic.
On the left side, there is a projecting gable with a three-light wood casement window and a stone lintel. A raking canopy extends over a three-light casement window and a plank door on the ground floor. On the right side, there is a flat-roofed three-light casement dormer set through the eaves, adorned with a moulded wood cornice. Below, there is a similar three-light casement window with a timber lintel and a door positioned at an angle to the left. The cottage was once part of the Eliot Arms Inn, which is adjacent to the left, while the butcher's shop has been known to operate at this site since the early 19th century.
