Description
Dover's Cottage is a former pair of houses, now a single house, dating from the 18th century. It was remodeled in the early 20th century and modernized internally in the late 20th century. The building is constructed of limestone ashlar with a stone slate roof. It has a two-room plan for each cottage and is two stories high with an attic, along with a two-story back wing.
The front elevation features one of the two remaining 4-centred arched doorways, and at each end, there is a 3-light mullioned window with a recessed chamfer and hood mouldings. There was originally a 2-light window situated between the doorways. Above the main level, there are three 2-light windows set in small gables. Each end of the building has a chimney stack that is corbelled out at a high level, with paired diagonal shafts and moulded caps. Additionally, buttresses have been added to the north end. On the back, there is an 18th-century chimney stack, and a wing that has been largely rebuilt in the late 20th century, which incorporates some 18th-century 2-light windows.
