Description

Crosses Barn is a field bank barn built around 1840, constructed from coursed squared and dressed limestone with a Welsh slate roof. The barn features five bays and has a wide projecting cart entry on the higher side, which includes a pair of plank doors set beneath a broad segmental arch. To the left of the entry are two ventilation slits, with one additional slit on the right, and a square opening under a segmental arch located high to the left.

On the lower side, the barn has an 'undercroft' supported by five segmental arches on square piers. In the second bay, the cheeks are extended forward and rise to a loading entry that is covered by a pent slate roof. Above this entry, there is one slit to the left and two to the right. The west gable features two ventilation slits at different levels, while the east end has a square opening with a segmental head above a single slit. The gable ends are finished with flat coping.

Although the interior is not accessible, lightweight trusses are visible. There is a rough scratch marking 'TF 1858' on one of the jambs of the main cart entry, which likely dates from after the barn's construction. This building is notable for its pleasing design and is uniquely situated across the slope, forming a bank barn, with no alterations from its original design.
