10/83 Gate piers, gates and railings at the west entrance to Cowley Manor

GV II

Gate piers, gates and railings. Mid C19, altered late C19. Ashlar piers with cast iron railings. Gates and piers linked to two quadrant walls with railings which link up to the service wing and stableblock respectively. Square piers with banded rustications interrupted by long rectangular fielded panels; moulded capitals with large ball finials which replace pedestals with Corinthian brackets at each corner, supporting griffin-like finials. Double gates with iron twist uprights ramped down at the centre. Low wall with square columns at intervals either side, the columns being linked by cast iron railings ramped down at the centre.
