Description
The balustrading and steps immediately south of Cowley Manor were likely built around 1860 for James Hutchinson. Constructed from ashlar, the structure features retaining walls for three terraces. There is a centrally placed double flight of steps leading from the upper terrace, with single flights of steps at the center of the other terraces. The upper terrace includes pedestals with urns, although some urns are now missing. The steps are adorned with foliate scrollwork on the balustrade, and pilasters transition into pedestals on the south side of the steps, featuring two retaining urns. Small rectangular panels on the pilasters are decorated with figures representing the four seasons. Additionally, there is a stone bench seat at the eastern end of the upper terrace, and the retaining wall for the middle terrace also holds some urns.
