Description

Numbers 47 and 48 are a pair of estate cottages built in the early 19th century. They are constructed from coursed squared and dressed limestone and feature a concrete tile roof. The cottages have ashlar stacks set on plinths, with two of the stacks restored in the 20th century. The buildings have a rectangular plan and include later lean-tos at the rear. Each cottage has a symmetrical facade and stands one and a half storeys tall.

The first floor has four half dormers with stone-mullioned casements, while the ground floor features four two-light stone-mullioned casements with stopped hoods. The entrance to No 47 has a part-glazed door from the 20th century, whereas No 48 has a 20th-century plank door with fillets. Both doors are sheltered by flat stone canopies supported on moulded brackets. The cottages have gable-end and axial stacks, flat coping at the gable ends and dormers, and moulded kneelers. The interiors have not been inspected.

There are also coursed squared and dressed limestone walls, standing between 2 and 3.5 meters high, that link No 47 to No 46 and No 48 to No 49. No 48 is owned by the National Trust.
