Description

Cottage dating from the early 18th century. It is built of rubble stone faced with ashlar and features raised quoin strips. The roof is a renewed Cotswold stone slate with coped verges, and there is a rear brick lateral stack. The front range has a long rear range that was converted from two pairs of cottages from the 18th and 19th centuries. The front range is two storeys high with an attic. It has two windows with 8-pane sashes that have cambered heads and plain stone architraves with cambered soffits and keystones. On the ground floor, there are two 9-pane sashes in plain stone surrounds, and the door has been moved to the right-hand wing of the single-storey section with an attic, which has a single light to the right in stone surrounds. There is a central gabled dormer on the main range. The rear range was originally two pairs of cottages, one from the early to mid-18th century and the other probably from the 19th century. The second pair has been reduced in height at the front to the level of the first-floor windowsills, while retaining the rear wall to full height. The earlier pair has a replacement Cotswold stone roof. The later pair has doorways that have been converted to windows and double doors in a modern arched opening on the ground floor. The interior of the rear range was the only part inspected; the later pair of cottages has original fireplaces and surrounds on the first floor, with openings only on the ground floor. The earlier pair retains fireplaces on the ground floor.
