Description

Delburn House, located on Gumstool Hill in Tetbury, is a building from the mid-18th century that was originally a single house but is now divided into one house (No. 38) and three flats (No. 40). The facade of No. 38 is made of projecting ashlar, while No. 40 features rubble stone. Both sections have a Cotswold stone slate roof and stone chimneys. The structure is L-shaped, with a rear wing on the right and a front range that includes two rear projecting gables for No. 38.

The building has three storeys. No. 38 boasts a heavy moulded cornice that returns at both ends, adorned with dentils, and an attic storey. It has two windows featuring 12-pane sashes with moulded stone architraves and moulded sills supported by brackets. The ground floor includes two similar windows with moulded stone architraves, delicate cornices with dentils, and pulvinated friezes. The attic storey has 12-pane sashes with plain architraves. The rear of No. 38 has 12-pane sashes with cambered heads, plain stone architraves, and keystones. The front room on the ground floor retains fine wood wall panelling.

No. 40 has two windows with 16-pane sashes that have nearly flush wooden architraves. The ground floor features two similar windows and a door positioned at the angle, topped with a flat moulded stone hood supported by a large decorated console on the right. The interior of No. 40 was altered during its conversion to flats in the 1970s, and the rear wing underwent significant restoration at that time. The north outer wall of the rear wing has two small blocked stone arches.
