Description
Orchard Place Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the late 17th century to early 18th century, which includes two former cottages, a stable, and an attached store. The right end of the cottages has been incorporated into the farmhouse, while the rest is used for storage. The farmhouse features an ashlar facade and gable end facing the road, with ashlar gable end stacks. There is an illegible date stone in the gable end. The former cottages are built of squared limestone and have an artificial stone roof. The farmhouse has three rooms, one room deep, and is two storeys tall with a garret lit by a single light from the gable end. It has a three-windowed front with two and four-light flat-chamfered stone-mullioned casements that have single horizontal glazing bars, as well as three-light 20th-century wood casements with glazing bars. There is a 20th-century gabled porch off centre left and steps leading down to a cellar on the right, which has a blocked stone-mullioned window in the gable end. The cottages, stable, and store are also two storeys tall, with the store being a single storey attached to the left. The fenestration is irregular, featuring a gabled dormer across the eaves on the right and a pitching door on the far left. The wood casement windows include some from the 18th century with leaded lights, as well as some 20th-century versions with glazing bars. The store has a two-light flat-chamfered wood mullioned window in its left wall, and there are four plank doors. The interior has had limited inspection.
