Description
Rose Cottage is a semi-detached cottage dating from the late 17th century. It features an incised render front on rubble stone and has a stone slate roof with a stone ridge stack. The building is a single range with a lobby entry and a former rear stair turret, along with a small extension to the rear on the right side. It stands two storeys tall and has three windows, each with 2-light stone mullions.
On the ground floor, there are two similar windows on the outer edges, and a four-panel door located beneath the stack, which has a blind wall above it. This door is sheltered by a mid-19th century gabled porch hood that has decorative bargeboards and brackets. To the immediate right of the door, there is a small canted bay window featuring 2/4/2-pane sashes and a small moulded cornice.
The rear of the cottage has been largely altered but still retains two 2-light stone mullions with square hoodmoulds on either side of the stair turret on the ground floor, as well as a 2-light stone mullion on the rear extension. The stack includes two large back-to-back fireplaces on the ground floor, supported by timber bressumers.
