Description

The cottages at 1, 2 and 3 Milton Street, Fairford, likely date to the late 17th or early 18th century, with later alterations in the 18th century, particularly to the right-hand cottage (number 3). They are constructed of coursed rubble stone, with alternating flush quoins to the left-hand side only, and have a stone slate roof. Stone stacks include an external stack on the left. The cottages form a single long front range, with small rear wings; they are two storeys high with an attic.

Nos. 1 and 2 have five 2-light stone mullion and transom windows, originally probably four to No. 1, with a fifth bay added slightly later. No. 3 has two 3-light wooden casement windows with chamfered timber lintels. There are five small gabled dormers across the front, most with 20th-century windows.

The ground floor features a shallow square bay with a moulded cornice to the left. Number 1 has a 4-panel door with beaded flush panels and a leaded 2-light stone fanlight. Number 2 has a 20th-century six-panel door set within a chamfered stone surround, and a 2-light stone mullion and transom window. Number 3 has a recessed plank door and a paired casement window, alongside a large 20th-century three-light window, all with chamfered timber lintels.
