Description

DOWDESWELL - SO 91 NE 4/24 Rossley Gate II

Detached house. C17. Square-panelled timber framing with rendered infill. Rear wall rendered. Stone slate roof and brick stack. Rectangular main body. C20 extension at rear not of special interest. Two storeys and attic. Irregular fenestration; 2 and 3-light wood-mullioned casements with leaded panes. Some windows slightly canted. Early studded plank door with hand and wreath door knocker. Large central axial stack. Interior: moulded stops to tie beams. History; house formerly stood on the corner of Gloucester Road and Arle Road, Cheltenham, and was moved to its present position in 1929. Probably originally known as Arle Cottage.
