Description

Rossley Gate is a detached house dating from the 17th century. It features square-panelled timber framing with rendered infill, while the rear wall is also rendered. The house has a stone slate roof and a brick stack, with a rectangular main body. There is a 20th-century extension at the rear that is not of special interest. The building is two storeys high with an attic and has irregular fenestration, including 2 and 3-light wood-mullioned casements with leaded panes, some of which are slightly canted. The entrance includes an early studded plank door with a hand and wreath door knocker, and there is a large central axial stack. Inside, the tie beams have moulded stops. Historically, the house was originally located at the corner of Gloucester Road and Arle Road in Cheltenham and was moved to its current position in 1929. It was probably originally known as Arle Cottage.
