Description

Pound Close is a detached house dating to the late 18th century, with elements from the 17th century. The house is constructed with incised render and has a red tile roof with brick stacks. Attached to the main house at the rear via a red brick wall with a red tile roof and brick stacks is a 17th-century square-panelled timber-framed cottage, now used as a store.

The main house has a rectangular plan with a later extension at the right gable end, extending back to the rear right. The facade features a two-storey, four-window arrangement (including a single-bay extension to the right of the main body). There are two 16-pane sashes with shutters to the left-hand bay. A single 16-pane sash is located on the first floor of the right-hand bay. The lower section of this side has twin 8-pane sashes. A part-glazed panelled door, with glazing bars, is centrally positioned on the facade, flanked by fluted pilasters and a deep moulded frieze above. Above the door are six small rectangular terracotta reliefs depicting the signs of the zodiac. A 12-pane sash with shutters is above this. The first floor has two small pointed windows with Gothic glazing bars, flanking a larger rectangular window with a transom and 'Gothic' glazing bars. A late 18th- or early 19th-century fielded six-panel door is on the ground floor. The rear elevation has brick dentils at the eaves. A cast-iron railing with a double cast-iron gate runs along the front of the house.

Inside, the staircase has stick balusters. The house is linked to the timber-framed cottage via the red brick wall, which includes a pointed arched entrance. The cottage is rectangular in plan with two plank doors. Original roof trusses remain, featuring a curving tie beam, king post and raking struts.
