Description

Bird's Farmhouse, along with its attached dovecote and barn, is a Grade II listed building. The farmhouse dates back to the 17th century, while the barn and the buildings connecting the farmhouse to the barn were constructed in the early 20th century.

The farmhouse features square-panelled timber framing with rendered infill, and the gable end facing the road has been refaced in painted brick. It has a tile roof adorned with some decorative segmental tiling and includes brick stacks. The dovecote is made of brick, while the barn showcases square-panelled timber framing with brick infill and a thatched roof. The buildings that link the dovecote and barn to the farmhouse are constructed of brick, with a tile roof on the dovecote and the connecting buildings. The overall layout of the farm is 'L'-shaped, with an open-fronted store extending back from the rear right to the former dovecote. There is a range of loose boxes to the right that connects the dovecote to the barn, and single-storey outbuildings continue to the right of the barn.

The farmhouse itself is one and a half storeys high, featuring a gable that projects forward on the right side. The windows consist of 20th-century two and four-light wooden casements with glazing bars, and there are three dormers on the roadside front. A 19th-century plank door with a flat leaded canopy on brackets is located at the center of the main body. The right-hand return has two large roof dormers with four-light casements and transoms, and decorative plasterwork, including a fleur-de-lys, is present in the gables of the dormers. A part-glazed lean-to runs along the ground floor of the right-hand return. The farmhouse has off-the-ridge and lateral stacks, and a four-bay lean-to extends from the rear right-hand corner, linking the farmhouse to the dovecote, which originally had a lantern that has since been removed. The barn features double doors on both the east and west walls, and its north gable end is half-hipped. A single-storey outbuilding continues to the right of the barn, terminating in another single-storey outbuilding. The interiors have not been inspected.
