Description
Old Rowley is a detached house dating from the 17th century. It features square-panelled timber framing with painted brick infill set on a stone plinth, along with a painted brick extension. The roof is covered with concrete tiles, and there are two coursed squared and dressed limestone stacks with shafts that have been restored in brick. The main body of the house has a rectangular plan and is 1½ storeys high.
On the entrance front, there are two dormers at the eaves; one has a slightly canted 4-light casement, while the other has a 2-light casement. The ground floor includes five 2-light casements, four of which are made of steel and one of wood. Access to the house is through a lean-to at the left gable end, which is not of special interest. Similar wooden casements can be found at the rear of the building. Additionally, there are two large projecting coursed squared and dressed limestone stacks on the rear wall, and the area between these stacks is partly domed, indicating the former position of a bread oven.
