Description
Mill Farmhouse is a farmhouse that dates from the 17th century and has late 18th to early 19th century extensions, along with later additions. It features square-panelled timber framing with painted brick infill, while the late 18th to early 19th century extension is made of painted brick. The roof is covered with stone slate and artificial stone slate, and it has an ashlar stack that has been repaired in brick, as well as an octagonal ashlar stack. The main body of the building is 'L'-shaped, with the extension creating a 'T'-shaped plan. There is a 20th-century part-glazed lean-to corridor attached to the right-hand side of the 17th-century main body. The farmhouse has two storeys and an attic in both sections.
On the entrance front, the gable on the right projects forward and features a three-light casement window with glazing bars on the ground floor. The first floor and attic have two-light casement windows, all set within cambered arched surrounds. There are bands over the ground or first floor. To the left, there is a later 19th or 20th-century gabled extension with a 20th-century plank front door beneath an open-sided lean-to canopy. A sixteen-pane top opening casement window is located to the left of the door in the timber-framed main body, and there are 20th-century glazed French doors in the left gable end. The ends of the beams project slightly from the rear wall. A projecting limestone stack is found on the right-hand side of the extension, topped with a tall octagonal shaft.
Inside, the room to the left of the front door within the timber-framed range is panelled and features deep flat-chamfers with beaded mouldings. The rear wing is said to contain arched braced trusses.
