Description

Ivy Cottage is a detached cottage that dates from the 17th century and has late 18th to early 19th century extensions. The main structure features square-panelled timber framing with painted brick infill, while the extension is made of brick on a limestone plinth. The main body has a red tile roof, and the later extension has a stone slate roof.

The original 17th-century section is likely rectangular and is 1½ storeys high, with one visible bay that includes a projecting rectangular bay window with a flat roof and a 4-light casement on the ground floor. Above this, there is a 20th-century gable that imitates timber framing and features a 2-light casement window. The single bay extension, which projects forward to the left, is two storeys tall with an attic, and it includes a two-light roof dormer. The right-hand return of the extension has two 3-light casements with horizontal glazing bars and blind segmental heads.

Access to the house is through a 19th-century plank door located in the right gable end of the timber-framed main body, to the left of a large projecting stack that has offsets and sawtooth decoration at the top. There is also a small projecting stack from the gable end of the extension, which features similar sawtooth brickwork at its top. The interior has not been inspected.
