Description
The Summers memorial is a chest tomb located about 7 meters northeast of the path crossing in the churchyard of the Church of St. Mary. It dates from the mid to late 18th century and is made of limestone. The tomb features a moulded plinth on its base and a moulded capping with indented corners. The ends have a fluted frieze, and there are plain fielded inscription panels on all sides. The large rectangular cap has separate moulded end pieces on the east and west sides, along with a moulded rectangular finial. The south side of the tomb has an inscription for Robert Summers, who died in 1784, and his wife Esther, who died in 1750. The east side contains inscriptions for John Alexander and his wife Mary, with the visible dates of 1733 and 1722, though it is unclear if these are dates of birth or death.
